Mr. Kapil Dev the legendry cricketer inaugurated The Imperial Golf Academy on 23rd October 2010 at Ludhiana. The Academy has all modern teaching aids and has been designed by Nicklaus Design, who is also designing the 18 hole par 71 championship golf course in the vicinity of the academy.
The first batch of the academy was children between the ages of 8 and 16, who were initiated to the great game of golf in an exciting event, entitled “Initiation of Future Champions”. The group of 40 children was fascinated by the display of great shots by the legend himself, as also a keen tussle between him and 14 years old Viren Thapper, winner of the inaugural Imperial Cup held at Phillaur Golf Course in 2010. The trainees later signed a pledge “YES WE CAN. YES WE WILL, GOLF GOLD IN OLYMPICS 2016”.
Kapil Dev in his short speech exhorted the young would be champion to play
the game in the true sense, imbibe the sterling values that golf so aptly
teaches and above all strive for excellence in whatever they do. The launch
evening at Imperial Academy came to a dazzling end as Kapil Dev switched on the
strategically placed lights making the 10 acres world class Imperial Golf
Academy as the only flood lit golf academy in this part of Punjab with two
playing holes.
